Ceylon Gems
What Makes Ceylon Gems So Valuable?
Sri Lanka has been called Ratna Dweepa — the Island of Gems — for more than two thousand years. Its gem gravels formed from ancient metamorphic rock, producing sapphires with an exceptional, luminous brightness. Ceylon blue sapphires are known for a lighter, livelier cornflower tone that sparkles even in low light, while padparadscha is found in meaningful quantities almost nowhere else on earth.
Value comes from rarity, colour, clarity and origin. Many Ceylon stones are clean enough to need little or no treatment, and an unheated stone with a strong colour commands a premium worldwide. Famous jewels, including royal engagement rings, carry Ceylon sapphires — so a "Ceylon origin" note on a lab report adds both prestige and long-term value to your gem.
